Sr. Market Portfolio Manager

Location - Remote with up to 25% travel

 

Job Summary

 

The Sr. Market Portfolio Manager is a key strategic role in the business unit responsible for delivering organic growth for assigned market segments.  This individual will lead the development and execution of strategic growth plans based upon deep understanding of customers and market trends to ensure long term profitability for Kennametal. This role will be responsible to gathering segment specific customer requirements, identifying and prioritizing innovation opportunities and developing one-year and five-year plans.  This role will report directly to Business Unit Vice President and supervise the product management team.

 

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Support business unit Vice President, General Manager and/or Directors in creation and execution of BU strategy
  • Analyze markets, competitors and macroeconomic trends to identify risks and opportunities.
  • Identify target markets with current & potential competitive differentiation 
  • Work with commercial leaders globally to identify growth opportunities and support regional teams (personally and through product management resources). 
  • Work with commercial leaders globally to identify market share threats and develop countermeasures (pricing, innovation, partnerships, etc.)
  • Manage creation of strategic (5 year) and annual plans including base business plan and growth initiatives and monitor progress-to-plan through-out year.
  • Complies with all Kennametal ethical and policy guidelines.
  • Identify market needs for new product development, develop NPD business case & prioritize NPD projects 
  • Deploy strategic pricing programs and methodologies (indirect & direct discounting programs, portfolio price setting, volume discounts, minimum order quantities, differentiated lead times, finders fees, lost leaders, etc.)
  • Supervise product management team executing product life cycle management and develop employee skills.
  • Establish processes and expectations for product training, value proposition development, product lifecycle planning, conducting voice-of-customer, developing NPD specifications and collaborating with operations, engineering and marketing communications. 
  • Other duties as assigned to support business success.

 

Requirements

 

  • 4 yr secondary degree plus advanced degree preferred in Engineering or Business/Marketing .  
  • At least 8 years in Manufacturing Industry .  
  • 3-5 years experience in managing people, processes and/or products.   
  • Strategic thinking & analytical skills required.  
  • Leading multi-functional collaboration and/or  project management experience preferred.
  • Industry experience related to business unit market segments preferred.
