An excellent opportunity has become available to join Kennametal as a Maintenance Fitter at our Newport facility. The successful candidate will work as part of a team who are dedicated to the maintenance, service and repair of industrial machinery within the Powder & Hot Press departments and Machine Shop.

The Maintenance Fitter will work on a variety of machines. The machines and equipment will include furnaces, hot pressing machines, crushers, jet mills, lathes plus much more. This role will suit a time served fitter with experience maintaining, servicing, repairing and installing various machinery and equipment in an industrial setting.



  • To provide an effective planned and responsive maintenance service to the production teams.
  • Carrying out planned preventative maintenance, checks and procedures.
  • Respond to production breakdowns in a timely manner.
  • Identify, repair or replace defective or worn equipment and their components.
  • Preparation, assembly, and dismantling of Powders, Hot Press equipment.
  • To accurately log details of machine breakdowns and actions taken to remedy them.
  • Cleaning and maintenance of Powders, Hot Press equipment.
  • Ensure that Health and Safety awareness and performance meet company standards.
  • Assist with risk assessments of existing and new operations and offer solutions to current problems.

Job Requirements


  • Time served mechanical fitter with experience repairing, servicing and maintaining equipment in a similar environment.
  • Ability to use a range of tools and engineering techniques to maintain and repair machinery to operational standards.
  • Experience using precision measuring instruments to check parts for accuracy and fit.
  • Must be physically fit and comfortable working in an industrial environment.
  • The ability to follow technical manuals and engineering diagrams.
  • Ability to problem solve on variety of equipment
  • Must be Heath, Safety & Environmentally focused and promote safety in the workplace.
  • Must be a team player who is able to work and operate as part of a team.
  • Flexibility to work shift patterns.

Base Location

Newport Facility situated on Leeway Industrial Estate, NP19.


Competitive basic salary, shift allowance and benefits package.

Hours of work

40 Hours per week. Shift Rota Monday – Friday rotating on a weekly basis.
Mornings 6am – 2pm, Afternoons 2pm – 10pm
