Quality Engineer

Asheboro, NC

 

Summary

 

The Quality Engineer is responsible for planning, coordinating and completing broadly defined quality engineering tasks, assignments and small projects to ensure product and process compliance with customer and Kennametal expectations. This individual will aggressively drive quality improvement efforts in assigned areas with the goal of achieving zero defect performance, supports process improvement and problem-solving efforts with the focus on protecting and improving quality. The Quality Engineer will represent the organization and interface with the customer on a regular basis. The Quality Engineer will work closely with operations and engineering to reduce scrap and drive continuous improvement activities to reduce customer complaints and lower the response time. The Quality Engineer provides support in the way of development and evaluation of process capability, process control plans, analysis of out-of-control conditions and process audits; Develops, implements, and audits inspection and test plans, standards and acceptance criteria, and procedures/work instructions.

 

 Key Responsibilities

 

  • Lead and coordinate CRM investigation and update CRM progress as required
  • Modernize inspection systems
  • Provide direction and guidance to Manufacturing and Quality Technicians in measurement, analysis, and product disposition
  • Resolve quality issues of capability, tolerancing, and materials related issues.
  • Resolve quality issues by identifying problems, examining solution options, implementing action plans, and providing resources
  • Assist the Quality Manger in managing the ISO Management System
  • Administer Material Review Board through the facility’s non-conforming material procedures involving Material Group, Supplier, Engineering, Marketing, and Manufacturing as appropriate.
  • Support & Lead PPAP efforts involving the Asheboro facility, and participate in product launches to meet customer requirements.
  • Effectively communicate and reinforce Kennametal's commitment to quality improvement efforts
  • Support Engineering projects and problem solve with manufacturing.
  • Lead the Facility’s ISO 9000 Internal Auditing Team, arrange and perform necessary audits
  • Gather and provide reports including corrective actions, statistics on scrap, etc.
  • Provide support in the Advanced Quality Planning of product to be launched in the Asheboro Plant
  • Complete special assignments as directed by the Manager Quality Assurance

Education, Work Experience, Skills, Certificates

 

  • Quality and/or Manufacturing Engineering experience
  • Bachelor's degree preferred; combination of relevant experience and/or education will also be considered
  • GD&T
  • Six Sigma Methods
  • Lean Methods
  • Exceptional mechanical aptitude (i.e. intuitive understanding of mechanical processes)
  • Proficient with Corrective Action, Root Cause Analysis
  • Proven track record of driving continuous quality improvement in a manufacturing environment
  • Working Knowledge of the ISO 9000 series standard
  • Calibration/Metrology Techniques
  • Metallurgical failure and analysis
  • Quality Auditing techniques
  • Certified Quality Engineer (CQE-ASQ) preferred
