Quality Engineer

Role Synopsis:

The Quality Engineer will build expertise and ownership that can then be translated into ‘right first time’, builds. With productivity gains and process improvement established as part of their PPM's. This role will create true product champions who are able to speak with authority and knowledge about product group(s) and form part of a world-class team, who are able to stand with customers and discuss the performance, application, and general quality of their product as per the company’s product specifications.  Responsible for fulfilling the role of our Quality expert; this is a hands-on position.  Ensure the quality of the parts produced meet all customer expectations; quickly and effectively take action when non-conformances are found.  Maintain the most recent interpretations of the quality system requirements and therefore ensure that documented practices meet the true interpretation of the quality management system standards.

 

Key Responsibilities:

The following is a list of common responsibilities but are not limited to:

  • Coordinate with Sales, Engineering, Production Management, and Production Associates, to resolve customer complaints and concerns.
  • Facilitate and promote the use of appropriate problem-solving techniques for effective root cause analysis and successful corrective action.
  • Resolve quality issues by identifying problems, examining solution options, implementing action plans, and providing resources.
  • Resolve quality issues of capability, tolerancing, and materials related issues.
  • Perform duties in accordance with quality system requirements as the voice of Kennametal’s customers.
  • Provide support for updating, auditing, and maintaining the ISO Quality Management System.
  • Provide engineering support to operations ensuring consistent application of quality techniques
  • Determine when process stability and capability studies should be performed on existing processes.  Review and analyze results with Kennametal’s Engineering team.  Recommend changes to processes based upon findings and perform follow up to verify effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with Kennametal’s, Customers’, Quality, and Engineering personnel to determine critical part features and review manufacturability as it related to product quality.  Make recommendations to modify customer part specifications and tolerances as necessary to support cost-effective production.
  • Support & Lead PPAP efforts and lead product launches to meet customer requirements.
  • Establish and Maintain Control Plans and FMEA's throughout the life of the part.
  • Participate in the development of Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA).
  • Lead PPM improvement plan for strategic customers.
  • Effectively communicate and reinforce Kennametal’s commitment to quality improvement efforts

 

Key Qualifications:

The following are minimum and preferred requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering preferred
  • Experience managing a certified quality management system (e.g. IATF, ISO).
  • Exceptional mechanical aptitude (i.e. intuitive understanding of mechanical processes)
  • Proven track record of driving continuous quality improvement in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in the aerospace, medical, automotive industry preferred.
  • Proficient with Corrective Action, Root Cause Analysis.
  • Customer quality assurance experience.
  • Previous audit experience
  • Certified Quality Engineer (CQE-ASQ) preferred.
