Job Title: Operational Excellence Analyst

Location: Bedford, PA

 

 Job Summary and Mission:
 

Provides leadership and expert guidance to various Lean project teams and facilitates continuous improvement processes using applied Lean principles and techniques. Projects may cover various functional process areas, such as business administration, manufacturing, engineering, distribution. These projects normally have a short-term scope. Will focus on deploying lean methods and Management Based Safety the Kennametal organization. This position facilitates the use of KVBS tools in concert with Operational Excellence peers in Lean and Management Based Safety. This role is very consultative within all aspects of the Kennametal organization
 

 Key Job Responsibilities:

 

  • Directs projects, processes, functional and business objectives with a short-term scope and impact.
  • This position works under the general supervision of the Functional Manager and coordinates his/her efforts with the Kennametal Operational Excellence Team.
  • Areas of responsibility are reviewed on a project basis.
  • Goals are set that span up to one year for completion, with monthly and quarterly milestones.
  • This Lean Coordinator position is a first-level source of continuous improvement interface with customers, other facilities, other divisions, and suppliers.
  • This position is responsible for providing support to the Facility or Functional Project Team for Lean/Continuous Improvement activities.
  • Provides direction, consulting, and technical resource “Lean Throughout”.
  • Provides necessary training programs, instructions, and consultation to all levels to operate an effective Lean Enterprise.
  • Where appropriate, works directly with customers and suppliers to implement Lean, creating a complete Value Stream.
  • Realizes Plant long-term Lean Enterprise plans needed to meet business objectives.
  • Plans and directs the manufacturing LEAN functions within the ISCL plant organization.
  • Coordinates the Lean Planning Process for the ISCL plant organization, including chairing the Lean Steering Council for the ISCL Plant.
  • Provides planning, direction, training programs, instructions, and consultation for the ISCL EMEA plant so that world-class MBS performance is achieved.
  • Coordinates, plans, and sets LEAN and MBS goals with all personnel on the plant level. These goals support strategic goals of Kennametal ensuring capabilities to achieve performance targets.
  • Coordinates plant TPM activities (Total Productive Maintenance for EMEA - Includes the 7 Level System for all regional Manufacturing Units)
  • Oversees execution of key cross-functional projects in support of strategy.
  • Primary accountability for the performance of: Function within a business unit and/or own work

 

Education, Work Experience, Skills, Certificates

  • High school, 4 -year secondary degree preferred.
  • 3 - 5 years in discipline.
  • 1 - 3 years’ experience in functional area.
  • Management experience preferred.
  • Develops the tactical plan for the area of accountability as a reference point to execute strategy.
  • Provides input into attainment of strategy for area of accountability.
  • Identifies emerging issues relevant to area of accountability and adjusts execution plan to address issues.
  • Performs tasks at the tactical level.
  • On a day-to-day basis, leverages resources within area of accountability to execute plan.
  • May leverage resources in cross-functional areas in order to execute most efficiently.
  • Interacts with customers/suppliers to achieve position's objectives.
  • Influences employees within function to enable decision making.
  • Makes decisions using detailed analysis, integration, and constructive thinking.
  • Has primary responsibility for making decisions and managing risks that could have long-term impact on the assets and reputation of the company.
