Wastewater Treatment Operator

1st Shift



Job Summary:

The main purpose of this position is the collection and transporting of manufacturing wastes within the plant site and preparing the waste for disposal. Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Collect wastewater/liquids from various areas of the plant and transport to the WWT plant (Waste Water Treatment plant-Kennametal pre-treatment plant).
  • Operation of the WWT plant to maintain compliance with the Bedford Township Municipal Authority Industrial discharge permit.
  • Maintain WWT chemical inventory and documentation.
  • Maintain the Sanitary Sewer Flowmeter, monitor and record flow daily.
  • Coordinate sewer outfall sampling with Bedford Borough. Collect, label and deliver samples to Bedford Borough Sewer Treatment Plant.
  • Collect and transport other wastes to storage areas. Package and label for shipping.
  • Coordinate and schedule waste shipments with outside vendors. Prepare manifests, load shipments, sign and process shipping documents as required for DOT waste shipments.
  • Perform EHS inspections and documentation as required.
  • Maintain the central coolant system.
  • Maintain the DI water unit.



  • A demonstrated mechanical aptitude.
  • The ability to acquire a basic Knowledge of chemistry.
  • A valid driver’s license.
  • A forklift operator’s license.
  • Comply with OSHA, NFPA, DEP, EPA and all other applicable safety programs.
  • Must be able to work either standing or sitting for long periods of time
  • Ability to lift 5 to 20 lbs. routinely.

Education or Equivalent:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Wastewater treatment experience preferred.
