Payroll Manager (Hybrid Schedule)

Position Purpose/Objective:
The Payroll Manager oversees and manages the external payroll partner and processes to ensure the timely and accurate processing of payrolls in the Americas region. Additional responsibilities include resolving and identifying the root cause for, customer issues related to payroll, time and attendance, benefits administration, HR system support, and general workforce administration, within set service level agreements (SLAs).
Key Skills:
- Large company payroll experience (3,000 employees+)
- Full cycle payroll responsibilities including SOX controls, reconciliation to the general ledger, issues related to taxes, garnishments, and retirement plans, and interaction with corporate finance teams and internal and external audit
- Hands-on experience with ADP Globalview or similar large-scale platform
- Payroll tax processing
- Driving accountability and action with external payroll vendor
Essential Responsibilities:
- Oversee and manage the external payroll vendor relationship, holding them accountable to SLAs and process improvements
- Perform payroll tax processing, from payroll tax deposits and remittances per pay period to quarterly and annual tax returns and remittances; additional payroll tax responsibilities include interfacing with external vendors to ensure receipt of accurate wage and tax data, as well as assisting internal and external customers with tax-related questions
- Sign off on bi-weekly and semi-monthly payrolls by investigating issues and bringing them to resolution
- Perform Journal entries and month-end activities for Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable areas
- Develop and maintain regular reports via the company’s accounting system
- Verify accounts by reconciling statements and transactions
- Share responsibility for Payables and Receivables, including General Ledger Coding, inputting invoices to the payable system, writing checks and posting to customer accounts, and performing account reconciliations
- Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed
- Maintain financial security by following internal accounting controls
- Respond to customer questions, concerns, and issues via phone, email, and other methods as it pertains to Payroll Administration
- Collaborate with Finance and HR teams to work on process/policy standardization, compliance, and other projects as needed on payroll-related activities
- Partner with HR Centers of Excellence (i.e. Total Rewards and Talent Development) to support initiatives and administer programs as applicable
- Preparation of tax returns (many entities, all US states)
- General Ledger Tax account reconciliations
- Resolution of tax issues including root cause and preventative solution implementation
- Reconcile data between Master Tax and SAP, identify variances, and determine corrective action and preventative solutions
- Research and apply tax laws for audit defense, day-to-day compliance
- Lead the implementation of various payroll process improvement projects and assist with system testing on other related projects
Education & Experience
- Minimum of a four-year degree, with Certified Payroll Professional or other certification a plus
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in corporate payroll, with a previous tax or financial experience preferred.
- Superior attention to detail and ability to multi-task in a highly dynamic environment
- Continuous improvement mindset
- Strong Excel and PowerPoint skills
- Experience with case management systems preferred
- Experience with ADP Globalview is a plus.
- Experience with SAP HCM is strongly preferred
- Outstanding written and oral communication skills
