Position Description:  This position is responsible for ensuring that Kennametal Stellite products are manufactured according to written procedures and inspected/certified in accordance with customer specifications, while continuously improving and maintaining the effectiveness of ISO 9001, Nadcap, ISO 13485, TS 16949, 10CFR Part 50 App B, AS9100 and ISO/IEC 17025 requirements.  This position is also responsible for reviewing and implementing regulatory requirements associated with FDA, Medical Device Directive 93/42/EEC, and other regulatory requirements, as applicable.

 

Essential Functions:

1. Effectively manage and maintain all aspects of the quality system, including quality manuals, procedures, work instructions, corrective actions, audits, risk management and continuous improvement

2. Effectively monitor and report status of the quality system to management

3. Ensure product manufacturing is compliant to ISO 9001, ISO 13485, TS 16949, 10 CFR Part 50 App B, AS9100

4. Ensure materials test laboratory is compliant to all Nadcap and ISO/IEC 17025 requirements

5. Effectively monitor, implement and maintain regulatory requirements

6. Implement Management Based Safety program for the laboratory and as a manager

Typical duties and tasks:

1.Quality program:

  1. Maintain various accreditations and act as representative during audits for accreditation
  1. Write, read, and review quality manual, procedures, work instructions, and specifications
  1. Maintain document control and master document list
  1.  Coordinate and manage audit schedules, internal auditors, and source inspectors
  1.  Identify and coordinate required training
  1.  Coordinate and manage the customer complaint and corrective action reporting system
  1. Coordinate and manage the risk management program
  1. Maintain quality records and master record retention list
  1. Act as Management Representative per ISO requirements and report status to management
  1. Maintain nonconforming material system including disposition of material

2.Materials Testing Laboratory

  1. Possess a fundamental understanding of all inspection equipment and practices
  1. Provide technical guidance to staff, as applicable
  1. Assess and make recommendations regarding equipment
  1. Ensure Nadcap and ISO 17025 requirements are implemented and understood in the laboratory
  1. Ensure a calibration control program is implemented and maintained

3.Manufacturing

  1. Assure that product is manufactured according to procedures
  1. Participate in continuous improvement and/or lean projects
  1. Inspect, approve, and certify that products meet requirements of customer PO, specifications and accreditations

4.Inspection

  1. Primary responsibility for receiving and final inspection function
  1. Ensure metallurgical laboratory conducts the required inspections or forwards to another approved laboratory for required testing
  1. Evaluate customer specifications and ensure applicable requirements are communicated to laboratory personnel through SAP inspections

5.Production

  1. Provide technical backup and consultation for production
  1. Handle all matters relating to employee relations in quality assurance area, such as scheduling of overtime, filling of temporary and permanent vacancies, training of new employees, enforcing absenteeism policy, disciplinary actions, employee evaluations, etc. in accordance with company policies
  1. Ensure communication with and maintain training of laboratory personnel

6. Regular attendance

Qualifications and Experience:

1.B.S. or higher in metallurgy or material sciences or equivalent experience

2.ASQ CQE or CQM certification or equivalent

3.Knowledge and experience with ISO 9001, Nadcap, ISO 13485, TS 16949, 10CFR Part 50 App B, AS9100, ISO/IEC 17025, FDA Regulations, and MDD 93/42/EEC Regulatory Requirements

4.Knowledge and experience with powder metallurgy

5.Demonstrated oral and written communication skills with all levels of organization and external customers

6.Attention to detail

7.Strong interpersonal skills, with emphasis on succeeding in a team environment
