Sourcing / Commodity Manager

Responsibilities

 

  • Leads the sourcing function for Kennametal’s Metallurgical related material responsible for a relevant annual spend across multiple manufacturing plants and various support operations.  Develop and maintain a deck of improvements in cost, quality, and service. 
  • Key member of the Global Metallurgical Sourcing Team, assists the team with developing, implementing, communicating, and continuously improving Kennametal’s sourcing strategy. 
  • Responsible for the creation, deployment, and continuous improvement of commodity strategies for assigned spend. Create simple and clear cost out summaries for various scenarios and on-going purchases to show Leadership results of strategy and priorities. 
  • Able to effectively create and manage the RFI and RFQ process to identify opportunities. 
  • Maintain and develop an approved supplier list including approved supplier list by part showing good, better, best options. 
  • Travel to source of supply locations to build relationships, assess quality, and compliance.  Travel to remote locations on occasion. 
  • Partners with the Global Sourcing Functional Excellence team to ensure that defined best practices & designated tools and procedures are comprehensively deployed across the region and that sourcing projects are flawlessly executed.
  • Act as a liaison between the manufacturing sites within the businesses and the Sourcing organization, ensuring that the sourcing and manufacturing strategies are mutually aligned and supportive.
  • Liaise with key stakeholders in various business segments and others as determined to coordinate business requirements and ensure a stable supply chain while delivering optimum value.  Active participation in a cross-functional material competency team to ensure material is qualified and new products and suppliers are developed. 
  • Accountable to partner with the Global Commodity Management team to deliver an optimal balance between global leverage and regional flexibility.
  • Owns all supplier performance for assigned suppliers, including compliance to contracts.  Partners with manufacturing to ensure that supplier performance is an enabler toward manufacturing excellence and end customer satisfaction.
  • Assists in development of top talent for Kennametal’s Americas Sourcing team, ensures that the team is focused on driving optimal value for Kennametal’s purchased spend with a strong customer-service mindset and a bias toward continuous improvement.
  • Key Metrics & Outcomes include: Ethics, Cost Reduction, Ariba e-Sourcing Spend, Strategic Sourcing Strategies, Avoidance of Sole Source Items, Touchless Purchase Orders and Invoices, DPO, Delivery Performance, Quality, Inflation Mitigation, Compliance to Conflict Mineral Policies.

  • Financial Analysis – Able to create cost savings scenario summaries and track purchase price performance to commodity markets to differentiate between cost movement due to commodity markets versus supply chain improvement.  Understands financial concepts including invoicing, accounts payable and other financial business processes. Interprets financial data, analyzes cost structures, and determines financial impacts of decisions.

Education & Qualification

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree (RQ) in Supply Chain, Business, or Engineering
  • Experience: 5+ years in Strategic Sourcing (RQ) Global Strategic Sourcing (PF).
  • Certifications: CPSM (PF)
  • Proficiency: MS Office, Excel, Word & PowerPoint (RQ), Access (PF), SAP (PF), Ariba (PF)
