Senior Manager, Reliability and Maintenance

Job Summary:

This position is responsible and accountable for the Huntsville maintenance departments. The role of the maintenance department is to maintain the facility assets such that they are available for safe and reliable production. This position focuses on people leadership and leadership development in the organization. The purpose of this leadership focus is to guide the workplace culture such that Safety, Teamwork, Operational Discipline, Continuous Improvement and Accountability are highly regarded as values and accepted principles.    

 

Strategically, the position focus is on the continuous improvement of maintenance logistics which are work planning/scheduling and execution, as well as the facility reliability improvement objectives. This position is responsible for ensuring budget compliance and making resource and organization recommendations and decisions. The position also serves as a supporting role within the facility asset management group, which includes Maintenance and Engineering.

 

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Take a visible role in EHS Leadership. This includes activities such as participating in and coaching leadership in the standard shop and job walkthroughs, safety contacts, participating in weekly safety meetings, incident investigation, providing resources for safety related maintenance items and insuring compliance with EHS policies and procedures.
  2. Leading the Maintenance organization to meet Strategic Business Objectives:
    1. Ensure Safe and Reliable operation of the facility using the most appropriate Reliability Centered Maintenance strategies, effectively measured by OEE and System Availability.
    2. Activities include, but are not limited to, tracking and improving Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF), Equipment Availability & Downtime data, reviewing Preventative (PvM) and Predictive (PdM) Maintenance compliance & optimization, and PSM & Mechanical Integrity Compliance.
    3. Maintain Financial Performance by exercising good judgement on expenditures, to be measured by budget compliance
    4. Execute efficient and quality service by utilizing best practices in planning and scheduling and precision work execution, measured by a number of Key Performance Indicators
  3. Develop and Stimulate employee growth through regular coaching and feedback sessions, ensuring employees are given opportunities and challenges, recommending or approving training sessions, supporting career development opportunities for driven high performance individuals. Assess employee performance and provide honest and candid feedback as needed. Participate in the selection process for various roles within the organization.  
  4. Support a collaborative partnership with Sourcing departments. In order to maintain long term success in an asset-centric chemical manufacturing business unit, a collaborative relationship between Engineering, Maintenance and Operations is essential. Sharing consistent and disciplined best practices with the objective of achieving lowest asset lifecycle cost and consistent ROA/ROI.
  5. Recognize and support customer needs and insure a broad and consistent recognition that operations group is the key customer of the maintenance department and that the customer’s success is measured by chemical products safely produced, delivered on time and within specifications. Insure that as a service centric organization our decisions and actions ultimately support our customer’s success.
  6. Life Cycle Asset Management:
    1. The team will manage equipment reliability throughout the entire life cycle of the asset from design and installation through commissioning and operations to the end of its useful life.
    2. Engage with Engineering to participate in the development of design and installation specifications along with acceptance testing, inspection criteria, and operability plans.  Ensure the reliability and maintainability of newly installed assets to include proper critical spares inventory management. 
    3. Engage with Maintenance personnel to determine the cause(s) of equipment failures, develop solutions for improving equipment performance, and implement recommended changes. 
    4. Analyze data and records from SAP to identify bad actors and develop plans for major upgrades of facility equipment to ensure the most current technology is cost effective and utilized.
    5. Deploy, manage, and improve predictive maintenance program, including Thermography, Vibration Analysis, Lubrication Analysis, AMS, Ultrasound technologies, etc. 
    6. Engage Operations to support efforts for autonomous maintenance and provide technical support and training to plant personnel for increasing asset reliability.
    7. Provide recommendations for End of Life (EOL) assets for future CAPEX spending.
  7. Improve Availability & Effectiveness.
    1. Track and reduce production losses and high maintenance cost assets.  Prioritize and focus efforts on the largest/most critical opportunities.
    2. Development of plans to eliminate or reduce losses through Reliability analysis tools such as Root Cause Analysis (RCA), Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM), Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA), Core Problem Solving (CPS), Statistical Analysis, Weibull Analysis, etc.
  8. Mechanical Integrity.
    1. Manage asset risk to the achievement of strategic objectives in the areas of environmental, health and safety, asset capability, quality, and production. 
    2. Support and utilize tools and programs to identify and reduce risks which include:  RCA, FMEA, RCM, PHA Reviews, MOC, PSM Plans, CPS, Statistical Analysis, Pareto Analysis, etc. 
    3. Participate in the Mechanical Integrity initiatives under Process Safety Management to identify risks and develop plans for mitigation. 
    4. Adhere to and improve compliance with company policies and procedures, industry standards, and regulatory bodies.
    5. Development of a standardized repository for equipment data.
  9. Manage the workplace culture by setting, holding and demonstrating behavioral expectations. Provide guidance and direction as needed and ensure a broad understanding of roles and accountability and the value of teamwork. This also includes compliance with corporate legal and ethics policies, procedures and standard practices. Maintain an open door policy for all employees, and ensure a safe, productive, diverse work environment where every employee provides a valuable contribution to the success of the organization and is treated respectfully and fairly. 
  10. Other Duties as Assigned.

 

 

Education / Certification:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Chemical or Electrical Engineering is required. An advanced degree in a related field or an MBA is a plus but is not required.

 

Experience and Skills (Required):

  • Ten or more years of related experience are required. Knowledge of our SAP enterprise software, Microsoft Work, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, Microsoft PowerPoint, and Microsoft Outlook is required

 

Supervisory Responsibility:

  • The Sr. Manager, Maintenance & Reliability has responsibility for company employees and imbedded contractors

 

Empowerment & Decision Making

  • The Sr. Manager, Maintenance & Reliability is to make recommendations on personnel decisions regarding hiring and disciplinary actions.
