Summary

 

The Huntsville plant Senior Manufacturing Manager is responsible for the business activities relating to the manufacturing of Tungsten Carbide.

 

 

Essential Job Functions  

 

  1. Ensure the overall EHS performance.  Activities include but are not limited to monitoring performance as measured by the OSHA recordable rate, actively participating on the Executive Safety Committee, promoting safety performance via communications such as production staff notes, providing visible safety leadership via safety contacts in the plants and in staff meetings with direct reports, presenting key safety topics during safety seminars, seeking to identify innovative ways to improve safety performance via networking with professionals from other facilities, implementing appropriate changes to enhance the safety culture of the plants, assuring that sections are following plant waste-management guidelines (including required training), participating in plant waste-minimization activities, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations.

 

  1. Meet or exceed the business objectives of the Huntsville Plant. Activities include but are not limited to monitoring performance relative to the expense budget, holding direct reports accountable for controllable spending in their areas, providing specific expense objectives to direct reports where appropriate, providing a monthly update on performance relative to the expense budget to the plant manager, taking an active role in the annual budget process, ensuring the Huntsville plant production department expense budget is reasonable and attainable, ensuring compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley, ensuring the adequacy of plant quality systems to ensure we remain ISO certified (addresses customer service and product quality), monitoring performance with regards to meeting customer needs and expectations, monitoring Huntsville’s plant performance on inventory management, continuously improving the overall productivity and effectiveness of the Huntsville plant.

 

  1. A key responsibility of this role is to lead the Huntsville plant daily site meeting.  This person owns the meeting and designates a backup when he/she is not able to attend.  The purpose of the meeting includes but is not limited to reviewing the performance of the Huntsville plant with respect to executing the Huntsville plant production schedule, planning for the period up to the next meeting (and beyond if necessary), coordinating shared resources and establishing clear priorities and surfacing issues that are impacting the execution of the production schedule.  The Senior Mfg Mgr owns the meeting, prepares the agenda, makes key decisions based on input from all representatives and ensures completion of the action log items.  Representatives or their backups from production maintenance, engineering, and quality attend and provide updates to assigned actions, briefly report on significant issues in their area supported by KPI’s.  Area reports will be on a management by exception basis and if an area is experiencing no problems, a report is not necessary. 

 

  1. Assist the plant manager in managing the capital budgets for the Huntsville plant.  Activities include but are not limited to approving capital projects, recommending approval of capital projects by corporate functions, providing long term direction to plant personnel on needs for capital expenditures, participating in the process for development of Anticipated Funding Expenditures, ensuring an appropriate balance of capital funds for small and large projects, ensuring an appropriate balance of capital funds for maintaining the integrity of the Huntsville plant, meeting safety requirements, ensuring environmental compliance, ensuring Huntsville plant security, providing equipment for new products, providing new capacity, migrating and upgrading process automation and upgrading the plant infrastructure (electrical systems, distribution systems, etc.) and ensuring budget compliance.

 

  1. Stimulate employee growth and development for current and future plant/company needs.  Activities include but are not limited to hiring talented people, ensuring competitive compensation, participating in local “On Your Mind” sessions related to technical personnel at the plants, providing varied work experiences for the development of personnel, promoting the best individual at each opportunity based upon merit, coaching and mentoring direct reports, utilizing the performance review process at least annually and ensuring all exempt personnel utilize the performance review process at least annually. 

 

  1. Maintain a good work environment/culture the Huntsville plant fosters efficiency, effectiveness and high morale and a safe and environmentally clean workplace.  Promote a work environment that is fun and creates an atmosphere of creativity and accomplishment.  Activities include but are not limited to maintaining an open-door policy for all plant production employees, promoting a sense of family among employees, promoting diversity at our sites, ensuring that all employees are treated fairly and equitably, and approving levels of disciplinary action up to those that involve loss of pay or termination.  Many of these activities are worked jointly with the plant manager and the human resources manager. 

 

  1. Other duties as assigned.

 

Education / Certification

 

A bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, chemistry or similar field of study is required.  An advanced degree or MBA is a plus but is not required.

 

Experience and Skills

 

Ten or more years of related experience are required.  Knowledge of our SAP enterprise software, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, Microsoft PowerPoint and Microsoft Outlook is required.

 

Supervisory Responsibility

 

Up to eleven direct reports and company employees.

 

Empowerment & Decision Making

 

He/She has the authority to make recommendations on disciplinary actions of personnel in his/her area of responsibility.
