Kennametal’s Emerging Leadership Program


EMERGE, Kennametal’s early-career leadership development program is focused on building emerging leaders within Kennametal through diverse experiences to expand their perspectives, develop functional expertise, and accelerate career development. 


EMERGE will equip participants with leadership, professional, and technical skills necessary to drive performance and integration among business functions.  This immersive program is 2 years in duration with diverse functional rotations within Kennametal’s IT, Finance, Operations, and Commercial business tracks.  Participants must be willing to relocate or travel during the program.  Post completion of the program, position placement will be into a role based on your strengths and interests, as well as business need at that time.


Program Tracks 


  • IT - Our Information Technology Team is a trusted business partner translating needs into technical solutions and protecting our assets. 
  • Finance-Our Finance team partners with the business every day to enable strategic decision-making while delivering best-practice financial processes, measurement and execution.
  • Operations (EHS) - Our operations team is at the heart of what we do. Focused on the manufacturing, specifically EHS systems and processes, this team helps drive the success of our three business segments.
  • Commercial - Our Commercial Team combines a technical and business mindset to deliver the most valuable products, solutions, and know-how to our customers every day.

Program Highlights 


  • 1-week corporate onboarding and assimilation including leadership series, philanthropic activities, introduction to professional development training, and plant site visits as 1 EMERGE Cohort.
  • Formalized mentorship program
  • Robust and rewarding rotations within functional tracks (most rotations will require both corporate and plant assignments).
  • Ongoing learning journey to enhance technical, professional, and leadership acumen.
  • Working side-by-side with other EHS professionals at various locations and levels of the organization to develop a strong foundation and EHS skillset.


Program Eligibility


  • Completing final academic year Technical field: Safety Management or Safety Science, or related field of study
  • Strong organization, facilitation, leadership, project management, and communication skills.
  • Strong analytical approach to problem-solving.
  • Candidates with a minimum overall GPA of 3.2 is preferred.
