Manager Applications Engineering II Earth Cutting Division

Location - Remote within the US 

Travel - Up to 50% both US and international


Job Summary 

This role will be responsible for directly and indirectly leading the global team of applications engineers as well as ensuring the Kennametal Earth Cutting division remains at the forefront of breakthrough technology development within our strategic markets. 


Key Job Responsibilities

  • Directly supervise and develop (4) North American Applications Engineers with responsibility for all ECT applications. Indirect responsibility for (10+) outside NA Applications Engineers. 
  • Facilitate standardization of a robust system for field trial methods, collection of data, inventorying of data, and reporting of results. 
  • Facilitate knowledge sharing across regions and applications with support of product engineering and product management. Direct leadership of proven solution database. 
  • Coordinate field trials with global sales teams in support of sales growth and with product engineering in support of product development. 
  • Develop application engineering resources for future careers within ECT functions such as product management, product engineering, and/or sales. 
  • Support product management PLCM process by identifying portfolio gaps, providing input for 3-year product roadmaps, and providing feedback on existing product weaknesses. 
  • Utilizing application expertise, product knowledge, and, in field research, explore disruptive innovation development and inform ECT NPD pipeline. 
  • Monitor breakthrough disruptive technology in the marketplace. Collaborate with product engineering to assess threats and opportunities. Maintain a detailed list of threats. 
  • Support the M&A process through evaluations of potential acquisition targets.

 

Requirements

  • BS in Engineering Discipline with a preference for mechanical or materials engineering
  • 8-10 years experience of direct contact with customers to solve problems (does not need to be sales – can be technical support, product management, design engineering, etc.)
  • Knowledge of tungsten carbide products, cutting tools, and wear solutions
  • Experience in earthworks industries:  mining, construction, forestry, agriculture, recycling
  • Experience in executing in-field testing for new product development
