Patent Counsel

Your success will be driven by your demonstration of our Cultural Beliefs. More specifically related to this position, Kennametal seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:

Required Qualifications:
• BS or advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Metallurgy, or Ceramics or similar field
• Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school
• Pennsylvania Bar membership preferred or willingness/ability to become admitted to the PA Bar
• Must be registered with the U.S. Patent Office
• 5+ years' experience as a patent attorney
• Demonstrated leadership skills with desire and ability to contribute where needed, regardless of level
• Proven business judgment and personal maturity to interact with and counsel business clients;
• Ability to work collaboratively, cross-functionally, and cross-culturally;
• Outstanding interpersonal, decision-making and communication (written and verbal) skills.
Your Tasks And Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities of this role, Patent Counsel, are to:
• Provide legal advice and counsel for (Intellectual Property) IP matters, including preparation and prosecution of patents and trademarks preparation and negotiation of agreements including confidentiality, joint development and licenses;
• Participate in the development and implementation of IP strategy including developing/adopting procedures and best practices for patent preparation and prosecution
• Interview inventors to collect disclosure information
• Conduct prior art searches, freedom to operate and infringement searches
• Provide leadership in securing and maintaining meaningful worldwide IP protection;
• Evaluate and manage legal risk in areas of responsibility including analysis, advice, and status of all legal matters affecting Kennametal
• Work with outside counsel to ensure Kennametal receives high quality services in a timely and economical manner.
