Senior Manufacturing Engineer

At its core, the manufacturing modernization program is about creating and building the right foundations to ensure that we produce and deliver products profitably at the right time and at an exceptional level of quality. As part of our journey toward contemporizing our Company, the Senior Manufacturing Engineer will lead Inserts process optimization while driving a focus on manufacturing capabilities and process optimization across the global Inserts Centers of Excellence.

 

The Senior Manufacturing Engineer will plan, direct and execute engineering projects related to manufacturing methods, processes, optimization of systems and equipment using comprehensive knowledge of existing capabilities and new technology. The Senior Manufacturing Engineer will implement the manufacture of new and existing products, integrating the most efficient processes and the most manufacturable design.

The Senior Manufacturing Engineer will manage high-visibility, strategic projects, manage focused project teams, run meetings, standardize existing processes, and develop training and operational documentation across Inserts COE’s.

The role will focus on linking customer requirements to drive manufacturing excellence, support product & new process development in our COE’s and deploy these standards to other manufacturing sites.

 

 

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage Center of Excellence activities
  • Manage day to day responsibilities of multiple project teams by creating complete execution plans, defined success criteria and plant readiness plans.
  • Collaborate with Project and Program Managers in other areas to create a community of practice, leverage standardization and drive positive development within the function.
  • Travel required will be over 50% depending on hiring location
  • Developing subject matter expertise in core manufacturing processes
  • Identifying, developing, optimizing, and deploying manufacturing process innovations for product and processes by utilizing appropriate engineering methods, applying theoretical and empirical techniques, leveraging experience with existing Kennametal technologies, and evaluating external solutions.
  • Deploy standard processes across global manufacturing footprint.

Knowledge & Skills

  • BS degree in an engineering or manufacturing discipline required
  • Minimum of 10 years of demonstrated experience in a manufacturing environment with multi-million dollar budgets using cross functional teams from several different groups
  • Able to execute programs of significant complexity and uncertainty from concept through deployment with minimal supervision and in accordance with Kennametal’s stage gate process.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading technical, design and manufacturing teams, across a matrixed global environment.
  • Experience utilizing disciplined, structured, and repetitive processes to manage advanced manufacturing engineering, engineering, technology and manufacturing teams.
  • Demonstrated experience with facilitating strong collaboration/communication across multiple geographic locations
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong competency in customer focus (both internal and external) to ensure project objectives meet the customer’s needs
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, SharePoint, Project Management Software (e.g. MS Project), and demonstrated ability to learn other business software.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing and operations preferred
  • Knowledgeable and Demonstrated and proven proficiency in the analysis and implementation of lean manufacturing principals (e.g. Lean Six Sigma)
