Staff Engineer, Advanced Manufacturing Engineering

 

Summary

Kennametal is seeking an experienced Steel machining Engineer to join our Global Advanced Manufacturing Engineering team.

This role will collaborate with functional Business leadership, Technology, Manufacturing, Product Management, Finance, Supply Planning, Sourcing and Project Leaders to establish and execute Steel Toolholder manufacturing strategies globally.

 

In order to fulfill this role, the candidate will possess steel machining and steel product value stream mastery, guiding and implementing the optimal manufacturing location and methods for the most cost-effective realization of Kennametal steel products.

 

The role will oversee Engineered Product transfers; supporting the Global Steel Product Portfolio (Rotating /Static Holders, Drill and Milling Cutter Bodies) corporate business strategies.

These responsibilities will include running analyses, report-outs and managing, through influence, the overall coordination and execution of mid to large size projects for product best fit between facilities to maximize the optimum fit for capability, capacities, lead-times and costs using current/future best practices and procedures.

Project types may include; inter-company and external product transfers using Kennametal’s stage-gate process, strategic manufacturing, and directional costing analysis projects around the globe.

 

Key Job Duties/Attributes

· Work with all related Manufacturing plants worldwide, Product Engineering, Technology and Advanced Manufacturing Engineering for steel manufacturing equipment selection, qualification, installation, process improvement and troubleshooting.

· Skills to evaluate existing and new product designs to recommend design modifications to exploit modernized manufacturing technologies without affecting product integrity or performance

· Subject matter expert on machine tool technologies and their individual uses/applications with the ability to evaluate new equipment selection and productivity improvements, provide processing, setups and machining recommendations

· Develop and implement global steel machining process standards for manufacturing with technical support from Technology.

· Lead, manage and influence others to deliver projects on-time to achieve specified goals and objectives

· Collaborate with business teams to proactively identify, prioritize, facilitate product transfers, cost analysis projects and strategic initiatives

· Enforce corporate procedures were applicable, examples; ensure Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) / Production Release guidelines and requirements are met

· Facilitate issue resolutions and escalate across the project teams and business stakeholders when necessary

· Track and communicate key project metrics and milestones to all team members and stakeholders progress and achievement of business/project objectives

· Conduct proactive cost analysis for engineered products for best business fit, considering; business strategies, location, capability, capacity, tariffs and landed costs

 

Education and Experience Requirements

· Extensive Metal-cutting and part fabrication experience in a manufacturing environment

· Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Machining Technology, Business or a related field preferred

· Proficient in Microsoft Office, SharePoint, Project Management Software (e.g. MS Project), and demonstrated ability to learn other business software

· Experience managing projects through the complete project lifecycle: Building business case, Planning, Execution, Monitoring, Report outs

· Problem-solving skills, leadership qualities, influencing cross-functional project teams, communicating, and consulting skills

 

10+ years of experience with a Bachelor's degree (or equivalent experience)

 

Level of Engineer will be determined by the candidate's education and experience
