Business Development Manager Ceramics (EMEA)

 

Job Summary

The Business Development Manager Ceramics EMEA is responsible for accelerating Kennametal’s diversification into markets and applications offering large growth opportunities. The Business Development Manager will be responsible for the sales opportunities that concern ceramic powders and components coming from our facility in Newport, Wales, and will have a territory responsibility in EMEA (TBD based on location and language skills) for the ceramic evaporator boats coming from Schöngau, Germany.

Ceramics in EMEA is a $25M business and is part of a global ceramics business of $55M. The position will provide direction and support to global management in identifying opportunities for growth, required investments and long-term planning to accomplish this growth and will collaborate with the sales, production, engineering, or research and development departments to determine how solutions could be made or modified to suit the needs of the customer.

 

Key Job Responsibilities

Business Development

  • Significantly grow sales on ceramic powders and components by developing customer intimacy to understand pain points from our customers.
  • Improve our agility and customer centricity by ensuring a seamless link between our customers, and internal teams: sales, production, engineering, or research and development.
  • Support global management in defining the market approach on selected priorities. 
  • Support product management in managing product portfolio (e.g., rationalization, qualifications, developments). 
  • Support marketing in building market intelligence and disseminating throughout the ceramics organization.  
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, and establishing personal networks.
  • Drive the Kennametal cultural beliefs of Customer First, Everyone Matters, Own It, Be Bold, Focus Now.

 

Sales

  • Customer focused to maintain existing relationships and grow new ones to reach sales objectives.
  • Support global management in sales forecasting, plan preparation, sales inventory, quality notifications, receivables collection, credit notes.
  • Report on sales in collecting, analysing, and summarizing sales and market information into CRM.
  • Contributes and support customer service team in prices list preparation and follow-up.
  • Support marketing in ad-hoc projects (e.g., pricing, value proposition).
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, and establishing personal networks.
  • Drive the Kennametal cultural beliefs of Customer First, Everyone Matters, Own It, Be Bold, Focus Now.

 

Education

Bachelor’s degree (preferred master’s degree) in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Material Science, Business Administration or related discipline required as a minimum.

 

Relevant Work Experience

5+ years of sales and sales leadership experience.

Proven commercial understanding with a track record of developing and executing commercial strategies and action plans.

 

Functional/Technical Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • A broad knowledge of technical ceramics, machining services, ceramic materials and their applications e.g., including as examples knowledge of non-oxide ceramics and applications in semiconductors, high temperature, aerospace, automotive, oil & gas, etc.
  • An In-depth understanding of the manufacturing industry and concepts associated with machining.
  • Excellent verbal, presentation, and written communication skills.
  • Strong business and commercial acumen.
  • Strong influencing skills and executive presence.
  • A process-oriented mindset supported in applying sales productivity tools and systems (CRM, SAP, etc.). 
  • Team-player but also has ability to be a self-starter.
  • Structured and analytical style of working.
  • Excellent IT skills (MS Office, SAP).
  • Fluent English in speaking and writing.  
  • Willingness to travel frequently including staying overnight.
  • Able to cooperate effectively on different levels externally and on lateral level KMT internally.
  • Excellent planning skills.
