Sr Graphic Design Manager

 

Job Summary

The Senior Graphic Design Manager is responsible for, working in close partnership with Digital/eCommerce, Strategic Marketing, and Commercial organizations, establishing and executing the strategic creative development, art direction, and campaigns for digital and ecommerce across all channels (paid, owned, and earned media).  This role will deliver unique and consistent multi-brand identity and messaging that inspire and connect with target customers (direct and indirect).  The Sr Manager Creative Services will ensure creative guidelines and the correct brand direction is being implemented across the enterprise.

 

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Lead and improve the creative development process from kickoff to final deliverable, providing both strategic & tactical direction for both digital and offline collateral development, while ensuring quality control.
  • Develop and implement key strategies for the ongoing advancement of our visual brand identity for both Kennametal and WIDIA brands.  Drive understanding and alignment across the organization around our brand identity; provide direction and ongoing education and updates to enterprise stakeholders.
  • Find and implement design best practices and brings new ideas to the team.  Understand and is pro-active in finding ways to deliver premium and leading creative solutions within budget.
  • Manage robust multi-channel campaigns, including directing creative development, understanding, and coordinating key elements of production & deployment.  Common channels include (but are not limited to): website, email, direct-mail, video, print materials, and social media.
  • Provide clear tactical recommendations related to creative design, content, and layout.  Oversee the process of optimizing all creative materials before materials are launched through common channels.  Develop and present brand design strategy, themes, and implement changes across all marketing material, sales, and product/merchandising applications – with a focus on digital channels.
  • Ensure consistency in each brand look/feel/messaging and standards internally and externally.
    Act as liaison between internal teams and the various creative and design teams to create engaging and compelling visual assets, including but not limited to graphics, presentations, photography, animations, videos and collateral.
  • Collaborate with domestic and international teams to provide innovative creative thinking, as well as full visibility on all creative assets available, deadlines, creative concepts, and approvals on international work.
  • Manage external vendors and oversee development of digital and non-digital creative collateral, providing both strategic & tactical input to optimize marketing content and ensure customer feedback is incorporated.
  • Work in a cross-functional capacity on projects that integrate other key delivery areas such as print production, digital media, email deployment and analytics, executing deliverables on time and within budget.
  • Lead a team of talented creatives and agencies, motivating, guiding, and influencing not just the work, but their personal growth and career development.

 

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, UI/UX Design, Interactive Design, Digital Design, Advertising Design or similar
  • 8+ years of agency or in-house design experience

Functional/Technical Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Proven ability to produce excellent creative work, and a master-level understanding of design, including trends, color, typography and layout.
  • Experience managing large projects; ability to design according to business and technical requirements and comfort with ambiguity and changes in direction.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to justify your design choices in a cross-functional environment. Comfortable giving and receiving feedback.
  • Self-motivated, and strong ability to prioritize and manage workload and meet critical project deadlines.
  • Strong expertise in digital marketing and UX design best practices.
  • Experience working with international teams preferred.
  • Expertise using Adobe Creative Suite applications and Figma.  Workfront experience a plus.
  • Fundamental skills in photography and videography are a plus.
