Facilities & Safety Engineer

 

I. Summary of Job:

  • Responsible for all engineering-related aspects of systems supporting CVD and PVD coating operations in a manufacturing environment including the coating facility's critical operating systems, overseeing the maintenance of infrastructure and equipment, and management of critical coating safety systems.

 

II. Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Daily control and improvement of coating support systems and related processes

    • Process support: Historical analysis of equipment operation, quality, etc.

    • Equipment support: Advanced preventative maintenance, technical troubleshooting (including electrical/electronic)

    • Procedures, working instructions: Development, implementation, training, and auditing

  • Planning and coordinating infrastructure and equipment maintenance schedules and activities.

    • Coordinating and overseeing contractors performing maintenance activities.

  • Performing risk assessments.

  • Ensuring processes comply with environmental, safety, and health standards, including:

    • Develop and Implement Furnace and material delivery system hazardous energy control procedures

    • Coating facility and furnace gas detection system maintenance and reliability

    • Lead Coating facility and furnace emergency response program, procedures, and training

    • Assist with the Development of Critical safety work instructions and JSA’s (Job Safety Analysis) for furnaces and material delivery systems

    • Lead Management of facility wastewater treatment process and Permit requirements

    • Assist with managing Coating facility Department of Homeland security requirements

    • Lead incident and chemical release investigations and assist with implementing corrective actions

  • Project management: Lead new process introduction/qualification, equipment installation, etc.

  • Problem Solving: Identify complex problems; Lead teams in a systematic approach to resolution using data-driven analysis/decision making; Follow-through actions through implementation and validation

  • Ability to develop an understanding of complex and evolving processes as required to lead, implement, and sustain systems improvements

  • Coordinating and overseeing contractors performing maintenance activities

  • Evaluate skill levels of technicians, develop training materials, coach and train team members for improving team and equipment performance.

  • Equipment design: Develop design specifications for equipment supporting coating operations

 

IV. Skills/Knowledge Required:

  • Experience with tools, including fundamental understanding of the operation, process controls, and programming (Vacuum Systems, Gas Delivery / Distribution, Control Systems)

  • Ability to perform basic troubleshooting of electrical/electronic systems

  • Demonstrated experience in

  • Teamwork and Communication: Able to work well in a team environment and effectively communicate throughout the organization

  • Lean manufacturing principles

  • Data analysis and related software (i.e. Minitab)

 

VII. Education Guidelines:

  • BS Engineering - Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering (preferred) with a minimum of 3 years of related experience 

 

VIII. Experience Guidelines:

  • 3 years of experience as a Facilities Engineer or similar role

  • 1-2 years - Project Management, and OSHA Process Safety Management

  • Must have an excellent track record in project planning, execution, and delivery

  • Experience as an equipment engineer or field service engineering professional who is highly effective working in a team-oriented matrix organization

  • Experience with vacuum processing equipment and gas distribution systems preferred
