Job description: Lean Technician

Position Description: Identifies opportunities in manufacturing for the company and executes Continuous Improvement activities as appropriate. Provides coordination of all activities relating to Continuous Improvement and enhancing knowledge of the tools and techniques of Continuous Improvement / Lean and Six Sigma methods.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supports the overall continuous improvement program for the entire manufacturing process
  • Identifies and implements continuous improvement activities on the shop floor to produce bottom-line savings
  • Facilitates workshops for Team-Based Problem Solving
  • Works on projects both individually and cross-functionally
  • Performs cycle time reductions, plant layouts, workstation design, scrap and cost reductions in the manufacturing process
  • Performs economic analysis for assigned work
  • Maintains budget and timeline during projects
  • Evaluates labor and creates appropriate standards
  • Trains workforce on the various tools of Problem Solving
  • Capacity to perform in a constantly changing environment
  • Implements CI / Lean method projects on the shop floor in a wide variety of areas (TPM, SMED, FLOW, MM, WPO, etc.) with bottom-line impact
  • Able to work/adapt in a 24 hr X 7 Day production environment with continuous processes.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

 

College Degree Major Desired: Engineering or Technology preferred (Industrial, Mechanical, or related field) (On the Job Experience considered in lieu of degree if demonstrated skill sets and contributions are applicable)

 

Knowledge, Training, Skills, and/or Experience:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Able to construct Value Stream Maps (current and future states), identify improvements, and lead cross-functional teams in developing line improvements
  • Specific expertise with continuous processes, TPM, OEE, and Daily Management.
  • Ability to lead/train on Root Cause problem solving
  • Ability to lead/train on SPC and Six Sigma methods
  • Background in automation, plastics, metals, or other continuous or thermal processes
  • Able to perform business analytics and connect problem-solving and continuous improvement activities to a business case.
  • Ability to communicate individually and in group settings
  • Superior interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interface with all levels within the organization and with external vendors
  • Excellent organizational skills with a strong ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment. Accuracy is a must.
  • Ability to lead and facilitate cross-functional teams.
  • 3 to 5 years of practical experience with lean methods / Continuous Improvement in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience implementing Lean Manufacturing, 5S, and Continuous Improvement concepts

 

Certifications, Licenses: Lean/Six Sigma Green Belt certification preferred, or Black Belt certification desired.

  • Must be detail-oriented and self-motivated with superior time management and a mature, professional attitude
  • Must be able to take direction from several sources and prioritize accordingly and work under tight deadlines

The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at job sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud.
