Manager, Engineering (Manufacturing)

Job Summary and Mission

 This person leads the engineering positions within the complex for all manners of process, product, and systems support including troubleshooting, installation, development, and continuous improvement.

 Key Job Responsibilities

 

  • Manage day-to-day responsibilities of the engineering function for the facility as related to equipment support, installation, and improvement.
  • Develop tactical plans to achieve business results and provide feedback and input on strategy related to product and respective processes.
  • Makes decisions using detailed analysis, integration, and constructive thinking.
  • Monitor processes and provide reports on progress and achievement of business objectives.
  • Optimize resources allocation and utilization.

 

Key Position Accountabilities

 

  • Assimilate requests related to existing and developing products including costing, routing, machine capacity, and machine capability loading.
  • Develop and support tactical planning of capacity and productivity improvements involving physical assets to ensure 98% fill rates of standards.
  • Conduct periodic reviews of business objectives and asset deployment to optimize the
  • product realization footprint toward lowest landed cost.
  • Plan and execute manufacturing footprint consolidations or product transfers.
  • Plan and execute projects to reduce manufacturing costs.

 

Knowledge & Skills

 

  • Knowledge of the specialized field of expertise.
  • Oversees execution of key cross-functional projects in support of the strategy.

 

Financial/Business Accountability

 

  • Understanding of costing, routing, and preferably SAP systems including the methods by which costs may be improved within a standard costing system.
  • Responsibility for cost reduction initiatives including creation, tracking, and leading of initiatives to yield year over year productivity gains.

 

Strategy

 

  • Participate in the development of a tactical plan for the area of accountability with respect to the corporate and regional strategies for the inserts manufacturing business.
  • Provides input into the attainment of corporate and regional strategies for the business.
  • Identifies emerging issues relevant to the area of accountability and adjusts execution plan to address issues.
  • Determines how resources are allocated within the area of accountability.
  • Provides input into organizational design for areas of accountability, primarily with respect for the long-term development of employee and plant capabilities.
  • Accountable for development and adherence to a departmental budget.
  • May build and maintain relationships with constituents outside Company to support business needs.
  • Interacts with other departments to coordinate activities.
  • Makes decisions using detailed analysis, integration, and constructive thinking.
  • Decisions are guided by set policies and procedures, business plans, resource availability, and functional objectives.

 

Typical Education or Equivalent Work Experience

 

  • 4-year secondary degree, plus advanced degree preferred or 2-year degree plus commensurate experience.
  • 8+ years in the discipline.
  • 3 - 5 years in a management role.

 

Additional Key Position Accountability:

 

  • Lead the Safety Leadership Committee and develop the site Safety Flight Plan, and monitor progress and clear any organizational barriers that may prevent achieving the goal of 100% Safe.
  • Establish and enforce a safe environment with clear roles and responsibilities, and regularly monitor performance using Safety Reviews.
