Sintering Furnace Operator

Orwell, Ohio



Job Summary


The Sintering Furnace Operator will load, unload, and operate sintering furnaces.                                             


Key Job Responsibilities


Load/unload, start/stop and operate sintering furnaces.  Remove sintered heats from the furnaces.  Follow established procedures for running and checking furnaces to ensure all systems are operating correctly.  Remove Quality Control  lab tests and place in proper envelopes.  Remove box tests and deliver to the appropriate focus factory.  Pull samples and record inspection results.   Deliver the sintered heats to the separators and replace empty furnace slabs in sinter set-up.  Maintain heats’ printer and file reports in file cabinets. Scan in correct information. Perform routine furnace maintenance.  May assist with sinter set up, separate, and other related duties as needed.

Commitment to working safely and understand all safety procedures. Furnaces run to a set procedure changed in writing by technology or management.  Incumbents responsible for making changes, putting in the correct programs, and following the written procedures ensuring error free operation.  Deviations in routine are handled according to operating procedures and/or work instructions. Operator responsible for following inspection control plan, assuring product is processed according to proper routings, specifications and the quantity and style are correct. Work to meet daily departmental production goals. Communicate safety , quality and product issues with supervisor, team members and across shifts.                                                                                             


Knowledge and Skills


Able to do basic math. Able to view and adjust sintering programs on the microprocessor.  Ability to understand technical operation procedures and comprehend how they affect each furnace.  Ability to operate  hydraulic fork lift for loading/unloading furnaces. Is able to handle inserts with fingers without chipping. Understands insert identification manual. Is able to read and understand operating procedures.  Communicate with technology, management, maintenance, other operators, sinter set up, and sinter separators.  Proficiency of the job reached in 12 months.                                                                              


Education and Experience


Must have High School diploma or GED.
