Job Title: Assistant Treasurer

Location: Pittsburgh or Latrobe, PA


The Assistant Treasurer is responsible for key corporate finance, foreign exchange and interest rate risk management, liquidity management, and business unit support through information development, analysis, reporting, and compliance.  This position is also responsible for developing strategies and supporting initiative implementation to manage risk and enhance liquidity.

This position requires a highly performance driven individual with broad financial and system knowledge, extensive financial market experience, specialized technical financial skills, and global experience.  Given Kennametal’s diverse and global structure, the Assistant Treasurer must have an ability to simultaneously manage numerous, time sensitive projects while maintaining a high degree of accuracy.


Corporate Finance

A key responsibility is the development and support of the Company’s overall funding strategy including capital structure optimization and efficient capital deployment to Kennametal’s extensive and varied global operations.  The individual should have experience in bank and debt capital markets and keep apprised of market dynamics and ongoing developments in order to provide value-added insight and analysis of the various funding alternatives open to Kennametal. 

Global treasury management experience is desired to support local or regional funding needs and determine most appropriate funding strategies for a particular business or geography.

The position is also responsible for essential credit metric/rating financial modeling to evaluate the impact of strategic investment including M&A, share repurchase, dividend policy, and other capital structure optimization or growth strategy impacts on capital structure, as well as modeling critical debt capacity under various investment and economic outlook scenarios.  It also entails monitoring and ensuring compliance with Kennametal’s financial metric and other covenants with respect to the syndicated revolving credit facility and public notes.


Foreign Exchange and Interest Rate Risk Management

More than half of Kennametal’s sales are outside the US and conducted through sales subsidiaries within most countries.  Kennametal maintains manufacturing and distribution facilities in all three regions.  Significant foreign currency exposures arise from large product flows between the Americas, Europe, and Asia.

The Assistant Treasurer is responsible for identifying, consolidating, and hedging global significant foreign exchange exposures.  Kennametal maintains hedging programs for its economic or longer-term currency exposures as well as short-term or monthly transaction exposures arising from significant international operational activity covering in excess of 60 countries.

The position is responsible to maintain comprehensive processes to forecast annual economic exposures as well as the shorter-term transactional exposures arising each month. 

This individual supports foreign currency hedging strategy development and ensures policy adherence. 


Cash / Liquidity Management

Cash forecasting and liquidity enhancement is a key focus area.  The position is responsible to identify means to enhance cash flow visibility, monitor progress real-time to provide early indication on trends versus plan & forecast, and direct focus to key drivers and support business groups on enhancement efforts and recovery plans, when necessary.

This individual provides backup for the Manager, Treasury Operations and should be proficient in key cash management areas.



Required Education, Experience & Skills:

  • Masters degree in Finance, Accounting or Business Administration
  • CFA and/or CPA beneficial
  • 5-10 years of corporate finance experience, banking experience beneficial
  • Outstanding analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong knowledge of corporate finance theory, investment management and capital markets
  • Extensive knowledge of various FX risk strategies and hedging instruments
  • Cash forecasting and liquidity modeling experience a must

  • DCF valuation
  • Financial systems – OneStream/ ERP systems knowledge
  • SOX controls and compliance
  • Power Query/Power BI
