Plant Manager - Small Plant 


Job Summary and Mission Plans

Manages the overall production activities of a plant. Responsible for production schedules and performance standards for measuring progress. Monitors daily operations to identify and resolve problem areas relating to staffing, scheduling, tooling, safety, quality, and production line arrangement. May direct maintenance of facility and equipment.


Key Job Responsibilities

• Directs projects, processes, and functional and business goals with a broad scope and impact

• Provide strategic input to facilitate the achievement of business results

• Guide a functional or operational area that closely supports the implementation of tactical goals

• Assess external developments and develop risk mitigation strategies in the area of responsibility


Key Position Accountabilities

1. Lead the Safety Leadership Committee and develop the site Safety Flight Plan, and monitor progress and clear any organizational barriers that may prevent achieving the goal of 100% Safe. Establish and enforce a safe environment with clear roles and responsibilities, and regularly monitor performance using Safety Reviews.

2. Responsible for plant financial performance

3. Responsible to assure customer satisfaction needs are meet - lead time, on-time delivery, quality of the product.

4. Responsible to assure proper staffing levels are in place to support demand.

5. Responsible for reducing costs through lean and 6 Sigma programs.


Financial/Business Accountability

• Typically accountable for the performance of - Products and/or discipline within a small business unit or staff function.

• Limited cost exposure impact on functional performance Plan

• Develops the tactical plan for the area of accountability as a reference point to implement the plan.

• Identifies emerging issues relevant to the area of accountability and adjusts implementation plan to address issues.

• Primary responsibility for carrying out all, or portions of, the implementation plan relating to a specific area of accountability.

• Translates and communicates overall Company strategy and connection to strategy in the area of accountability.


Leveraging Resources

• Determines how resources are allocated within the area of accountability.

• Typically accountable for development and adherence to a departmental budget.

• On a day-to-day basis leverages resources within the area of accountability to implement the plan.



• May build and maintain relationships with constituents outside Company to support business needs.

• Interacts with other departments to coordinate activities


Qualifications: Knowledge & Skills

• In-depth knowledge of the specialized field of expertise. Oversees implementation of cross-functional projects with significant influence on the operations of the Company.

• Overall understanding of business objectives and influence of department on achievement of those objectives

Education or Equivalent Work Experience

• 4-year secondary degree, plus advanced degree preferred.

• 3 - 5 years of management.
