Furnace Operator

Rogers, AR

The Furnace Operator will be responsible for the following:

  • Preparing jobs and all other functions that involve operating sintering furnaces. 
  • Responsible for loading and unloading the sintering furnaces and sampling product for metallurgical and dimensional evaluation. 
  • Obtaining acceptable sintered and pre-sintered quality using specified operating procedures. 
  • Using safety equipment and safe operating procedures, for housekeeping in assigned work area and for observing all company rules and regulations.
  • Input programs into furnace controller. 
  • Select and run designated furnace programs per instructions. 
  • Monitor, adjust and/or control temperature, pressure and gas flows during furnace operation. 
  • Build and break down loads, blend sand, pack boats, transport material to other furnaces in the plant for pre-sintering, sintering, and correction procedures and perform other related material handling duties as required. 
  • Obtain graphite plates with proper coat for rerun and straightening correction cycles and repack material on plates as required. 
  • Complete and file furnace load sheets documenting contents of each furnace load, measurements taken during the cycle, and any special situations incurred during the run. 
  • Monitor each furnace for proper and consistent performance and behavior and notify lead person, supervisor and/or maintenance personnel when changes or potential problems are detected. 
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance on equipment as prescribed. 
  • Assist maintenance personnel in making repairs to equipment. 
  • Maintain statistical process control charts, and train other operators as required.
  • Work from drawings, work orders, sintering/pre-sintering specifications, and follow written/oral instructions.
  • Must be competent in the use of gauges, thermometers, pyrometers, forklifts, sand blender, scales and other furnace related equipment. 
  • Will complete other related tasks as assigned by supervision.   





  • Requires the ability to use simple math, read drawings, use simple formulas, charts and schedules, use various measuring instruments that may require some interpretation, and keep legible, accurate, detailed documents as required. 
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Ability to work night shifts on a rotating basis.
