Quality Manager – Rogers, AR
 

The Kennametal manufacturing plant in Rogers, AR currently has an opening for a Quality Manager supporting the Infrastructure Business Group (IFBG) Business Unit. This position is responsible for maintaining and overseeing the daily activities of the plant’s quality management (assurance) program. This includes developing and managing a team of quality personnel and ensuring customer satisfaction through the production of products that consistently meet our customers’ needs and design standards. The role will maintain all facets of the quality system to the ISO 9001-2015 standard, respond to customer and supplier issues through formal problem-solving techniques, drive continuous improvement through Lean manufacturing principles and work closely with key stakeholders, internal and external, to ensure long-term success.  The position reports directly to the Site Business Director. 
 

Position Responsibilities:

  • Oversee materials testing, evaluations, and failure analyses.
  • Develop and manage the quality and reliability standards for the facility.
  • Communicate customer, regulatory and organizational requirements to assure product quality, contract compliance, and customer satisfaction.
  • Create and maintain the Quality Management System to the ISO 9001-2015 standard. Manage and coordinate all activities associated with site certification.
  • Drive and establish quality procedures through benchmarking, collaboration, and data analysis that reduce cost, minimize variability, and improve resource optimization and utilization.
  • Maintain product quality by enforcing quality assurance policies, procedures, and government requirements, as applicable.
  • Lead structured problem-solving focusing on root-cause corrective and preventative actions.
  • Exhibit and maintain a high level of engineering skills, including a strong knowledge of the facility’s manufactured products and manufacturing processes.
  • Establish quality requirements for suppliers and monitor their compliance.
  • Monitor supplier, and potential supplier, attainment of product specifications for products.
  • Strong collaborative skills with teams internal to and outside of the manufacturing plant.  Should have experience working effectively with the internal commercial, corporate quality, manufacturing, product engineering and sourcing teams, and with customers and suppliers.

 

Leadership Responsibilities:

  • Train, manage, and develop team members in fundamental problem solving, SPC (statistical process control), and other statistical methods, along with reviewing work, reports, and preparing performance reviews.
  • Manage Quality engineers and Laboratory technicians to support a high degree of technical assessment and analytics.
  • Develop and leverage reporting that highlights areas for continuous improvement actions.
  • Direct the analysis of all field claims through Quality Assurance labs and direct results for corrective and preventive action.
  • Maintain strong working knowledge of the Complaint Management system within SAP CRM.  Ensure necessary direct reports are capable of same level of system usage.
  • Proactively communicate with Site Business Director to ensure timely updates of administrative and technical activities, status of programs, problem areas, and corrective actions.
  • Lead facility Quality Leadership Team and Cost of Quality meetings, maintain notes and ensure timely follow-through on action items from team members.
  • Ensure that all quality equipment is properly maintained and in calibration.
  • Establish and maintain department procedures consistent with the Quality Manual.
  • Proactively contribute to the achievement of operations KPI goals of safety, quality, delivery, cost, and employee engagement.  
  • Continuously improve knowledge in areas of responsibility by proactively staying aware of technology trends, participating in training/webinars and networking with subject matter experts.  Maintain involvement in relevant professional organizations.
  • Recommend and justify the procurement of capital equipment to maintain an appropriate level of competence in current and advanced materials technology.

Education & Work Experience:

  • Candidate should possess a 4-year degree, preferably in Engineering.
  • In-depth experience with SAP QM and SAP ERP transactions relevant to manufacturing.
  • Implementation experience of statistical methods such as DOE and SPC.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills and experience in structured problem solving (A3, 8D and root-cause analysis, for example).
  • At least 5 years of experience and knowledge of compliance to maintain ISO standards and requirements to achieve certification.
  • At least 5 years of experience and knowledge of compliance of various Defense and Aerospace standards, such as AS9100 Standard.
  • Experience with internal and external and third-party audits
  • Supplier qualification and Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) experience.
  • At least 5 years of experience leading quality improvements within a manufacturing facility.
  • At least 5 years of experience in supervisory or team leadership capacity.
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification preferred: relevant ASQ certification highly desired.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, Access, and PowerPoint) and Minitab or other statistical software.
  • Excellent communication skills
