Production Supervisor

Solon, Ohio

2nd Shift

 

The Production Supervisor will understand and acknowledge day to day responsibilities for environmental, health and safety. Routinely conduct safety audits and develop action plans. Conduct hazard assessments throughout their area of responsibility, incorporate findings into JSA as needed.  Periodically meet with or provide progress reports to the department manager / the EHS administrator or the Plant Manager, regarding fulfillment of EHS responsibilities; participation on the Safety Leadership Team. Inform and conduct the required training per the EHS procedures for employees who are new in a position prior to starting job skills training.  Conduct refresher sessions for existing employees, based upon recent incidents, audit findings and/or site or company initiatives (e.g., hand safety).  Ensure compliance of their area and employees to existing safety guidelines such as PPE, housekeeping practices, guarding, safety checklists, etc.  They will regularly seek and seize opportunities to give Safety Stars.  They will take appropriate and consistent disciplinary actions as they pertain to safety compliance.

 

Supervisors plan and direct the daily activities within the department, either directly or through technical leads. These activities include, but are not limited to: 

  • Manage order-processing flow to achieve established “on-time delivery” & “lead-time” goals”.
  • Ensure maintenance issues are filed quickly and TPM practices are adhered to, and actions scheduled, with other preventive maintenance completed on a timely basis.  In the event of a crash, the appropriate crash report will be filed with full root cause and process review.  Seek assistance as needed to determine root cause, corrective action and where possible, preventative action.
  • Recommend staffing changes and/or overtime to ensure that total department throughput satisfies production requirements.
  • Maintains staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees; developing personal growth opportunities and cross-training.
  • Specify and/or requisition tools, fixtures, spare parts (new & repair), and raw materials where appropriate, and through assigned Manufacturing Engineer (ME).
  • Review, monitor and focus on increasing productivity, within assigned areas of responsibility, with year over year improvements.
  • Ensure ongoing compliance to all product quality requirements, and where possible, identify and address opportunities to improve quality and reduce scrap. Specific activities include:
    • Participate in scrap meetings held immediately before, after, or during the shift.
    • Ensure that appropriate work instructions, routers and drawings are available to operators in assigned work centers. Supervisors are also responsible for ensuring that operators are properly trained and for conducting In-Process Inspections.
    • Participate in / lead continuous improvement projects to enable Production to meet established performance objectives.
    • Participate in internal ISO audits. Address open Corrective Action Requests (CAR’s) in a timely manner.
  • Conduct daily forward communication for assigned workcenters. Agenda items should include:
    • (S)Safety (near miss, tool box talks, focus discussions, find and fix)
    • (Q)Quality performance and trends including focus initiatives to reduce scrap and rework
    • (D)Delivery performance including Sales, OTP and ABZ fill rates
    • (I)Inventory Levels
    • (P)Performance based upon efficiency metrics
    • Review actions and plans through an Activity Log or similar tool to address group and site underperformance to goals.  There should be an engagement of the group into controlling their destiny and positive impact and attitude.
  • Review performance and efficiency per employee
  • Assure written meeting actions
  • Assign improvement activities and priorities
  • Develop team building skills
  • Maintain records of employee time and attendance.
  • Counsel employees as appropriate to address performance concerns or issues in accordance with the guidelines established in the Employee Guideline Handbook.
  • Complete a mid-year review and annual performance appraisal for each employee and arrange for their training needs.
  • Complete other assignments, which are delegated by the department manager.

 

Requirements

 

  • High school graduate
  • 2 or more years of formal technical training beyond high school and 3-5 years of people supervision with proven ability in conflict resolution.
  • 4-year secondary degree preferred with a minimum of 5 years manufacturing experience.
  • Basic professional knowledge of environmental, health and safety issues.
  • Proficiency in the use of MS-Excel, MS-Word, and MS Powerpoint applications.
