Senior Manufacturing Engineer

Solon, Ohio



Job Summary


Kennametal has an exciting new opportunity for a Senior Manufacturing Engineer at its Solon, Ohio plant. The Senior Manufacturing Engineer is a critical technical position tasked to develop, implement, and improve key equipment and processes within the manufacturing facility. This position will be hands-on and spend significant time on the shop floor to help drive projects and trouble shoot production issues as needed to support company performance and customer growth.


Candidates for this Senior Manufacturing Engineer role, must have experience  planning and implementing various machining processes, and dictating machinery that will be utilized. The Senior Engineer will be consistently engaged in lean projects, and relied upon to troubleshoot problems while maximizing efficiency.


Key Functions


  • Help drive a safety focused culture through implementation of safe processes and equipment
  • Drive quality through robust repeatable precision machining processes
  • Specification of equipment, facility layout, equipment/product tests
  • Lead key scrap and cost reduction projects
  • Design process improvements including machine design, fabrication, and implementation
  • Develop and implement work instructions
  • Work with the Operations Team to identify bottle necks/issues and utilize lean techniques drive improvements
  • Analyzes process deficiencies; develops and recommends new and improved processes; determines expected benefits and required equipment and facilities; supervises the implementation of new processes and equipment
  • Provide guidance, training, and support to production, maintenance, quality, and contractor
  • Work in a team environment on simultaneous projects
  • Perform other duties as required

Education & Experience


  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar field, or combination of equivalent relevant education and/or experience is required
  • 5 – 10 years (or more) experience in a CNC machining environment, cutting tool industry or related metals processing facility
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience working with manufacturing personnel to increase production efficiencies
  • Prior exposure to plant upgrades, equipment modernization, and/or plant automation would be a plus
  • Strong written and interpersonal communication skills to communicate with all levels of the organization
  • Ability to work in a team environment and also individually as needed
  • Ability to work through complex problems at times with little guidance
