Supervisor Manufacturing 

Shift: 1st

Victoria, BC

 

The Manufacturing Supervisor oversees the production process and the overall management of their defined work area or shift to ensure success in achieving defined goals through on-going feedback.  The Supervisor supports the Production Manager with managing the day-to-day activities to ensure smooth flow of the production line by providing leadership to the team through ongoing coaching and guidance to meet expectations.  The supervisor is responsible for monitoring the team's KPI's and identifying areas of improvement and establishes action items to support the overall improvement of their function area.  The supervisor is responsible for ensuring their team successfully achieves their weekly targets and  monitors safety, productivity, and efficiency and ensures the workforce is appropriately trained.

 

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Supervise activities of a team, small department, or subgroup (upto 15 people)
  • Provides direction, training, and guidance to assigned staff
  • Ensure adherence to corporate policy and procedures
  • Achieve business objectives within set parameters (budget, targets, etc.)
  • Manage OTP/OTD work flow Shipping, Saw tips, Grinding
  • Report on production output totals
  • NCR resolution
  • Investigate and resolve customer complaints
  • Monitor and input for purchasing all raw materials across  saw tips and grinding departments
  • Act as Back-up for purchaser including Sub contract orders coordination and completion

 

Key Position Accountabilities:

  • Identify and monitor performance indicators that measure how well the group is supporting the plan
  • Plan, maintain and communicate production, manpower, and quality to achieve the plan
  • Manage the one-year operating budget for area of responsibility
  • Build a performance-driven culture through PPM, succession planning, execution of reward systems, and talent development
  • Ensure SOX compliance  re: EOM shipments execution
  • Ensure Receiving materials go to designated end user
  • Investigate shipping claims for damage or lost parts with investigation and follow through to CSR
  • Execute on meeting monthly shipments goal
  • Prepare Customs paperwork for freight companies, as needed
  • Ensure expedited orders are shipped according to instructions given by CSR. SAP input correct
  • Manage cycle count schedule
  • Manage E & O inventory reduction
  • Reconcile any discrepancies

 

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Basic professional knowledge. Applies knowledge, skills, policies, and procedures to resolve routine issues.  Collect and analyze data to identify high priority action items
  • Basic leadership skills such as performance management, employment practices, and team building in overseeing support staff.
  • Responsible for the performance of the function area within a business unit and/or own work.  Measure Function's performance by tracking efficiencies and progress on a daily basis
  • Contribute to the department’s financial goals as defined in work tasks.  Ensure continuous improvement initiatives are occurring.
  • Provide input into the creation of the execution plans and updates to plans based on changes in strategic direction.
  • Assess Dashboards for overall production in comparison to individual results; evaluate operator efficiencies using KPIs.
  • On a day-to-day basis, leverages resources within the area of accountability to execute the plan.
  • Influences employees within the function to enable decision-making.
  • Assist in resolving concerns and troubleshooting emergencies pertaining to quality or customer-related issues.
  • Works under clear objectives, within defined procedures and processes. Has some discretion regarding work methods.

 

Education and Work Experience:

  • Minimum of Grade 12 Education; Post-secondary education in Operations Management or a related field is an asset

  • Demonstrated understanding of lean principles and other manufacturing processes

  • Strong knowledge of continuous improvement tools and techniques

  • 1-3 years experience in  the functional area

  • Supervisory experience overseeing a minimum of 7 employees
