Engineer Manufacturing

This position works on process improvements related to the manufacture of rod and wire. It is responsible for day-to-day problem-solving and developing cost-effective solutions for the long-range viability of the plant. Key responsibilities include troubleshooting, process improvement, cost reduction, and increasing production capacity through yield improvement and utilization of available technology. It also includes capital project development and implementation, and the transfer of new technology, equipment, and processes to rod and wire production.


Essential Functions:

  • Write/review/improve manufacturing specifications, procedures, and work instructions
  • Reduce product defects by improving process procedures, evaluating new process technologies, and justifying capital purchases
  • Reduce variable and fixed costs by improving product yield and manufacturing process efficiencies

Typical duties and tasks:

  • Regular attendance
  • Perform failure analysis of defective product/process and follow through with necessary corrective action
  • Work with Technical and Quality Departments to bring new products to market and improve current product quality
  • Develop & maintain standard operating procedures and processing documentation
  • Develop & monitor in-process testing equipment and methods
  • Work closely with sales staff to ensure that products comply with customer specifications
  • Improve process capabilities (throughput, lead time, etc.)

Qualifications and Experience:

  • B.S. Engineering or Technical degree, or equivalent experience of 3-10 years in manufacturing
  • CQE, Green- or Black-Belt certifications or ability to achieve certification
  • Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization, excellent interpersonal skills
  • Expertise with facilitating cross-functional teams
  • Proficiency with MS Office, statistical analysis software, spreadsheets, and data mining
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and complete multiple projects with competing deadlines on time.
