Job Title: Smart Factory Engineer

Location: Solon, OH

Job Summary and Mission:

This position’s primary focus is to implement and drive adoption of Smart Factory tools, lead data-driven Continuous Improvement activities with manufacturing personnel, and provide feedback to AME and IT to improve existing tools or develop new ones. 

Key Job Responsibilities:

• Manage multi-site projects and communicate effectively to support Smart Factory maturity roadmap.
• Train Operations Teams to drive adoption of Smart Factory tools including (but not limited to) digital data, downtime reason code tracking, and advanced analytics.
• Work with Operations and Competency Teams to identify relevant tag values for each process and piece of equipment.
• Work with equipment vendors to connect machines to the Kennametal network and map relevant tags for collection.
• Ensure tag values are accurate and are properly stored and displayed on Smart Factory tools.
• Train and work with operators to ensure downtime reason codes are entered on time and accurately.
• Analyze data and identify Continuous Improvement opportunities to present to manufacturing.
• Work with the Operations Team and Competency Team Leads to review findings and plan activities.
• Work with Operational Excellence to prioritize manufacturing feedback; document action items to find root causes, identify counter measures.
• Participate and present progress in regularly scheduled meetings for applicable sites.
• Document feedback from plant teams and work with AME and IT to make improvements to Smart Factory tools.
• Collect requirements for advanced analytics and new dashboard development and work with AME and IT to deliver them.
• Help develop corporate standards including Smart Factory Playbook and document Success Stories.
• Complete Power BI beginner and intermediate training.

Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree
• 5-8 years of related work experience
• Outstanding leadership and ability to overcome adversity through team building
• Exceptional communication skills necessary to develop meaningful working relationships with all levels of operators and management.
• Strong and persistent drive to deliver results.
• Beginner to intermediate level knowledge of Kepware and SQL used to support KMT Smart Factory architecture.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Engineering preferred or equivalent related experience.
• Excellent project management skills including ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
• Good analytical and problem-solving skills, with an emphasis on a “hands on” approach.
