Job Title: Manufacturing Manager

Location: Roanoke Rapids, NC

 

 

Job Summary and Mission:
 

Manages the Roanoke Rapids production areas with the intent of achieving defined goals such as achieving daily and monthly safety, quality, production targets.  
Supervises the work force directly or through the use of production area supervisors and leads. Develops production improvement and recovery plans in when/if are missed. 
Develops plans to drive improvements related to quality and productivity/efficiency as needed. Ensures the workforce is properly trained, and leads/facilitates activities to ensure workplace organization meets expectations. 

 

 Key Job Responsibilities: 
 

  • Manage day-to-day responsibilities of multiple cost centers & product groups.
  • Develop tactical plans to achieve business results and provide feedback and input on strategy
  • Monitor processes and provide reports on progress and achievement of business objectives
  • Optimize resources through allocation, utilization and increasing flexibility (through cross-training)
  • Lead the Safety Leadership Committee and develop the site Safety Flight Plan and monitor progress and clear any organizational barriers that may prevent achieving goal of having an injury free, 100% safe work environment
  • Establish and enforce having a safe work environment with clear roles and responsibilities, and regularly monitor performance using safety reviews
  • Responsible for overall production goal attainment of defined metrics for safety, quality, cost, and delivery.
  • Manages team for overall performance including training, planning, scheduling, staffing, discipline through policy administration, and meeting production goals.
  • Responsible for eliminating waste and non-value-added activities through use of LEAN processes.


 

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Operations/production management knowledge and experience in an industrial environment.
  • Experience managing and successfully executing cross-functional projects in support of the business/operation meeting key strategic objectives.
  • Demonstrated understanding of overall manufacturing business objectives and experience driving/influencing operations teams to ensure key operations related goals are achieved.
  • Prior accountability for the performance of a manufacturing area (including performance of people, processes and products) within a small manufacturing business unit as part of the business’s leadership team.
  • Accountability for Revenue/Product/COGS range of $30M
  • Exposure and understanding of the impact of various operations on the financial performance of the business.
  • Experience developing the tactical plans for an operations area to ensure strategic objectives are met.
  • Experience providing input to leadership team to support attainment of strategic objectives for area of accountability.
  • Experience identifying emerging issues relevant to area of accountability and making adjustments to execution plan to address issues.
  • Experience managing resources in a manufacturing environment.
  • Provides input into organizational design for area of accountability with focus on realizing short and long term opportunities.
  • Experience developing and managing a departmental budget.
  • Experience building and maintaining relationships with internal and external team members and stakeholders as needed to support business needs.
  • Experience and understanding how to effectively interact/operate within a matrixed organization to support working together to achieve goals and objectives.
  • Experience making decisions using detailed analysis and constructive thinking.
  • Understanding that decisions are guided by set policies and procedures, business plan, resource availability and functional objectives.
  • Experience and/or knowledge that supports making sound decisions and managing risks that will eliminate negative impact to the company/business and it’s resources.
  • Ability to provide input on decision making within functional area of accountability as well as other functional areas.
     

Essential Qualifications:

  • Has a four-year secondary degree in a related discipline (engineering, operations, supply chain or business management).
  • Five or more years of experience working as a leader or technical support resource in a manufacturing environment.
  • Three or more years management experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Automation knowledge or experience in a modern manufacturing environment.
  • Understanding and experience using lean manufacturing and/or six sigma tools.
  • Must exhibit good teamwork and leadership behaviors
  • Good troubleshooting and reasoning skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to consider available information and use to make good decisions.
  • Must possess good communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to train others.
  • Experience with SAP/ERP and MS Office programs (Word, Excel) a plus.
