Tech Lead IT Business Solution (SharePoint)

Job Summary

The Office 365 applications are tightly integrated and are not meant to be used in isolation.  This requires a team that can quickly respond to changes from Microsoft.   The Collaboration Team needs architects and product specialists to work together with administrators, developers, and security. In addition to the product-specific skills, general technical functions are important for administering a digital workplace application platform, including:

  • Scripting (e.g., Microsoft PowerShell) for bulk/repetitive tasks, administrative functions that are unavailable in the administrative console and custom reporting.
  • Configuring the SaaS environment for security, regulatory compliance, or legal discovery
  • Working with developers and business users to build collaboration strategies and components to integrate with other business applications.
  • Designing and executing data backup and recovery

These platforms change weekly, sometimes daily. It’s critical to know which changes are coming, what their potential impact may be and which changes are important to test. These roles must also focus on user enablement, training and usage monitoring to ensure that the organization is appropriately licensed, based on user adoption levels.  In addition, a governance committee is engaged to keep up with changes to the product.

This role is one of product specialist.  This role is responsible for the vision setting and execution of the Microsoft Office 365 suite of collaboration products related to SharePoint (including Delve and OneDrive). They will lead the effort to expand our offerings to all Kennametal employees and ensure our Digital Workplace productivity tools are meeting needs across the globe.  The specialist will work with technical team members and stakeholders to ensure success of the product feature delivery and adoption, while providing technical leadership and innovation to internal and external clients.  Please note that this role will be responsible for coordination across the space and for specific technical area (SharePoint.).  Responsible for analyzing and translating business information and technical requirements into an architectural blueprint that outlines solutions to achieve business objectives. Must be able to review and solve IT application and performance issues through detailed analysis, trouble shooting, and collaboration covering all aspects of a given technology. Provides technical leadership on complex projects resulting in appropriate implementation. Manages the technical product life cycle, including introducing new functionality as well as support maintenance of the implemented technology. 

 

Key Job Responsibilities

 

  • Identify new or improved technical solutions and execute key tasks and projects of a complex nature.
  • Be the "product manager" from a technical perspective. Work with Business Partners and other personnel to manage the collection, prioritization and implementation of technical enhancements and change requests.
  • Be the technical expert concerning both strategy, implementation, and support aspects of the responsible technology.
  • As required to support Kennametal's strategic direction, keep up to date with new technologies by attending, and collecting information from others who attend vendor demonstrations, user groups etc. and determine best fit for Kennametal.
  • Drive the vision, strategy, and roadmap for the Office 365 product for the SharePoint space.  Works in conjunction with the other specialists for the overall roadmap - Develop and maintain the Collaboration Technology Roadmap for assigned area of responsibility including the deployment strategy for the related applications. (Work with the Architecture Team to develop Strategic Direction and general objectives. Develop the supporting details of the technical strategy within the assigned area of responsibility and manage the technology life cycle.)
  • Participates in development and execution of a governance process to support the fully integrated cloud office environment.
  •  Ensure adoption of these enterprise tools throughout Kennametal
  • Serve as the product owner for Office 365 product or product features from evaluating the preview to rolling it out to the users worldwide. Make key decisions on priorities and design and work to ensure that all stakeholders are aligned.
  •  Develop a thorough understanding of the Office 365 suite of applications in the SharePoint space and their capabilities and stay abreast of product evolution.
  • Monitor Microsoft announcements to identify any replacement plans for our current tools.  Develop and implement replacement strategies as needed. 
  • Continue to monitor and update as needed the shopfloor collaboration and communication strategy and user experience strategy.  Investigate the fit of new Microsoft introduced tools (related to SharePoint) for fit to our strategy.  Develop and execute pilot or implementation plans as needed.
  • Proactively solve project issues promptly and effectively
  • Provide periodic communications to project sponsors, stakeholders, and management.
  • Champion global collaboration and knowledge sharing best practices.
  •  Prioritize, improvise, and adapt technologies to address changing business needs and issues.
  •  Partner with business and leaders to identify and prioritize opportunities for utilizing Office 365 capabilities.
  • May oversee work of Technical/Professional or Admin/Support type roles.

Experience and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 8+ years relevant experience
  • 4-5 years of hands-on Microsoft Experience (Exchange, Teams, SharePoint, Power App, Dataverse, Multi Geo…)
  • 3+ years of progressive experience supporting Exchange Online, SharePoint, Teams and Microsoft O365. 
  • Hands-on expertise of working with a complex Active Directory infrastructure environment and the requirement of strictly following standards, procedures, and processes
  • Expertise in coordination and escalation to Microsoft support and ability to coordinate with first and third-party software vendors as needed for resolution of business-impacting problems (preferred)
  • Strong experience with SharePoint solution design utilizing Power Platform
  • Ability to understand and design a large solution upon technical, application and business requirements.
  • Demonstrate strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong technical writing and documentation skills
  • Office 365 tools (Word, Excel, Power Point)
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • O365 Certification a plus
