Key Account Sales Specialist - Metal Cutting Tools 

Location - Western NY (Buffalo, Rochester, Jamestown)


Job Summary 

Come join an industry leading manufacturer drive metal-cutting tooling sales growth with established customer accounts. Find success by effectively managing customer relationship, providing technical expertise, and increasing productivity and savings for some of our top customers. This role provides an opportunity to work on unique challenges related to cnc machining, milling, and lathe applications.


You will be based from a home office within the assigned territory, but 80% or more of your week is spent out in the field at customer locations. The territory is mostly within driving range, overnight travel may be required occasionally. Kennametal provides a company vehicle plus expense card. Our compensation includes a base salary plus a sales incentive plan based on results along with full benefits starting on day 1.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Manage 1-10 established customer relationships.
  • Maintain existing business and grow share of wallet with assigned customer accounts within assigned geography.
  • Ensure all sales goals are met by monitoring account activity and developing new business opportunities with high potential customers.
  • Call on assigned customer accounts to introduce new products or services or promote existing products or services
  • Communicate with assigned customer account or potential customers to troubleshoot problems or answer questions about products or services offered by Kennametal.
  • Takes hand-off from Account Development Specialist or Sales Engineer (hunter) when account reaches certain level of sales volume.
  • Create proposals for new business opportunities using knowledge of the company’s products or services and knowledge of the customer’s industry needs.
  • Leverage CRM to track activities
  • Provide technical expertise on products (e.g., product lifecycle obsolescence), customer programs (e.g., product upgrades) and customer cost savings initiatives.
  • Maintains intense market knowledge of competitors and market gaps and stay up-to-date on latest industry trends to continually improve customer productivity.
  • Work cross functionally with internal departments to support existing accounts or to win new business.


Education and Experience Requirements

  • Degree in Business and or Manufacturing and or Engineering preferred.  
  • 4-6 years of related experience in machining industry
  • Experience with a structured sales process, professional selling skills and strategic selling methodologies preferred, but we are open to candidates with strong technical and industry expertise willing to learn about sales processes and technique
