Job Summary
This position will lead the management of a Facilities, Plant Maintenance and Utilities spend category for Kennametal in North America. This role will be responsible for understanding the North American market, executing category strategies (as defined by Global Category Leader) and Procure to Pay processes to deliver the best value and performance for the company while managing and mitigating risks to supply and cost.
Key Job Responsibilities
- Partner with internal stakeholders to identify and implement opportunities to reduce cost of materials or services, reduce lead times and improve supply base performance for your categories.
- Manage key internal and external relationships across stakeholders and suppliers to enable strategic sourcing initiative and mitigate supply risks.
- Evaluate market intelligence, internal business goals and historical spending to determine strategic opportunities.
- Lead your category and cross functional team in the development, execution, and maintenance of Global sourcing category strategies.
- Lead source selection process including RFP, negotiations, and e-sourcing events.
- Lead and execute contracts for category in close collaboration with legal and category peers.
- Manage supplier expectations and key performance metrics for category. Ensure communication plans are in place with your team and key suppliers including business reviews, scorecard reporting, and systemic performance improvement.
- Partner with HR, Legal, EHS and the business to ensure category strategies are compliant with relevant laws, regulations, and risk policies. Ensure flow down and capture of required data to support conflict minerals, ESG, and other relevant.
- Develop and implement process improvement and cost savings initiatives with suppliers.
- Manage and execute within your department budget. Forecast budget, expense and category spend for AOP and multiyear STRAP planning.
- Utilize standard work to document and manage key strategies and actions for your category following the global sourcing and procurement procedures and policies.
- Partner with the Procurement organization to minimize leakage from the category strategies and make improvements ongoing based on feedback and risks identified.
Reqruirements
- Bachelor and/or master within a relevant field of study (Business, Supply Chain, Engineering).
- Experience in supply chain or relevant discipline in a manufacturing environment preferred.
- Proven track record within strategic procurement and/or category management (+5 years).
- SAP or other ERP system usage experience.
- Motivated by leading negotiations. Goal-oriented and proactive. Effective communication skills.
- Business Acumen – Driven by entrepreneurship. Able to set priorities and establish priorities. This role provides a unique opportunity to develop and manage a key commodity area.
- Business Performance Measurement – Ability to understand internal business processes, external market segments, establish strategic direction and business objectives, and gain alignment with cross-functional stakeholders.
- Customer Relationship Management - Understands organization of internal customer groups, key users, and characteristics of these customers. Drives to understand customer requirements and uses this information as an input to create effective strategies and reach timely decisions to foster mutually beneficial customer relationships.
- Data Management – Skilled in analytics; able to maintain key data, leverage raw data to organize and prioritize information for decision making.
- Project Management – Designs, plans, and manages projects to deliver value-added solutions within defined time and cost parameters.
- Financial Analysis – Able to create cost savings scenario summaries and track purchase price performance to commodity markets to differentiate between cost movement due to commodity markets versus supply chain improvement. Understand financial concepts including invoicing, accounts payable and other financial business processes. Interprets financial data, analyzes cost structures, and determines financial impacts of decisions.
- Experience working with a global corporation and matrixed environment a plus.
- Experience in a sourcing role and following compliance requirements for a global company and highly regulated industries.
